As Lara Chase stepped out of the shower she had the so called “butterflies” feeling in the pit of her stomach. What shall I wear tonight? she wondered. This was a special night and Lara wanted to look especially attractive for she had some very special news to pass on to Dave Brown. She tried on her best jeans, intending to wear them along with a pretty black sweater she had bought for the occasion. But the jeans were too tight, she couldn’t button them. She tossed the pants aside and settled for a looser pair she had worn in the early stages of her pregnancy with her son, Mark. These will have to do, she thought as she continued to prepare for a date she hoped would change her life.
Lara and
Dave were to meet at the Second Wave, a rather seedy lounge located not far from
the
beach. It was not the kind of place Lara normally frequented but on this night
she was fairly certain she might feel comfortable there. Lara needed to be alone
with Dave and she believed Steve LaSorda, the father of her son, would not
be looking for her in such a squalid environment. Steve was
married and had fathered two children with his wife, Lorraine. Lara and Steve
had maintained a longtime on again off again relationship and Lara was tired of
hearing Steve promise to leave his wife for her. She also did not want Steve to
know the feelings she carried within herself for Dave Brown until it was too
late for him to interfere. Lara was falling in love with Dave and on this night
she had wonderful news to share with him. Nothing or no one was going to ruin
this night for her, or so she thought.
